About the exhibition
Lost Vegas set Burton’s art among the retired signs of the Neon Museum, celebrating his long connection to the city.
For the first time in nearly a decade, Tim Burton staged an exhibition of his original fine art in the United States. It spread across the Neon Museum’s outdoor Boneyard, its North Gallery and the City of Las Vegas’ Boneyard Park opposite the visitor centre, combining new works with previously exhibited pieces.
Many of the large-scale sculptural and digital installations were created for the site and integrated with the museum’s collection. Burton intended the show as both a retrospective of his own creative history and a celebration of his affection for the Neon Museum, whose collection he first brought to worldwide attention in Mars Attacks! (1996).
“Filming the demolition of the Landmark Hotel for Mars Attacks! was one of the most powerful moments of my life. I am forever haunted by the image of that falling building.”
